We’ve got an announcement to make about where Play Aethro is headed.
We’ve decided that we’re no longer going to be publishing our modpack or projects through CurseForge.
As many of you know, we’ve always tried to keep Aethro out of politics. Whether it’s our Minecraft servers, our MUD, or anything else we build, we’ve always wanted Aethro to be a place where people can just enjoy games together without all the noise from the outside world.
That hasn’t changed.
At the same time, Jack and I have our own personal values, and every now and then those values influence decisions we make behind the scenes. This is one of those times.
When we started publishing on CurseForge, it was simply the easiest way to get our modpack and mods into everyone’s hands. It helped us grow, and we’re thankful for that.
Over time, though, we’ve reached the point where we don’t feel comfortable continuing to support the platform because of who owns it. That’s our decision, and we’re not asking anyone else to agree with it. It’s simply where we’ve landed.
The good news is that this comes at the perfect time.
The Play Aethro Launcher is almost here, and it was always meant to become the main home for everything we build. It doesn’t just make updating the Minecraft modpack easier—it also gives us a place to share the other games and projects we’ve been quietly working on for a long time.
Will this make us a little harder to discover? Probably. But we’re okay with that. We’d rather build something we control than rely on a platform that no longer feels right for us.
Our public mods, like ResourceWorld, will still be available on Modrinth and OwnersConnect for anyone who wants to use them outside of Play Aethro.
To everyone who’s downloaded our pack, played on our servers, or supported us over the years—thank you. We genuinely appreciate every one of you, and we’re excited for what’s coming next.
We’ll have more to share about the launcher very soon, and we can’t wait for you all to get your hands on it.
